Special Greases for Bi-Metalic Electrical Connections

A range of greases, formulated specially to protect sliding electrical contact surfaces, is now being marketed by Contact Engineering, the Boksburg based specialist in electro-mechanical manufacturing.
This dielectric compound has been specially formulated to solve many of the problems encountered in high and low voltage electrical systems.
The greases are non-petroleum based so they can be used in contact with high voltage premoulded EPDM rubber splices and other rubber insulating materials. These compounds display excellent characteristics as an aluminium oxide inhibitor enabling aluminium to aluminium and aliminium to copper busbar couplings and silver plated sliding contacts.
The grease functions effectively at temperatures exceeding 200oC with excellent adherence and no creep. They will not "run" at high temperatures, thereby ensuring that busbar to busbar joints and cable connections stay free from oxidation, the cause of high resistance interfaces.
Furthermore, the greases do not dry out and become powdery over time. This characteristic makes them the ideal solution for reducing maintenance on equipment and connections. The greases have proved their value for many years in overseas countries and can now play a key role in local applications to ensure reliable electrical connections.
Where stable performance of bolted aluminium to aluminium, and copper to aluminium connections under high current cycling conditions is required, the use of this grease is vital.
